In the last week, Alaska has experienced its coldest weather in the past 17 years, with temperatures dropping to minus 51 degrees, and on the outskirts falling to minus-61 degrees.
The cold weather comes as a surprise in the wake of Alaska’s rising temperatures in the last three years, due to global warming.
Still, the cold weather was nowhere near the all-time record low temperatures of minus-80 degrees.
Despite the low streak of temperatures around the state, temperatures are predicted to be above normal in the following weeks.
