Researchers are testing out a new medical treatment that could work against sepsis, where the body reacts to an infection and leads to damage in the organs or death.
Sepsis is one of the leading causes of death in American hospitals, taking more than 700 lives per day, as reported by NPR, and if proven to work, the treatment could save thousands of lives every year.
The treatment was first used by Dr. Paul Marik, who used it on many of his patients and found that it saved their lives with no side effects. Now the treatment will go into clinical trial and is being tested in two large U.S. studies.
Many patients have still died despite taking the formula of vitamins, but in other severe cases, the formula reversed the illness, say doctors.
