Air Pollution Levels in India Lead to Public Health Emergency and Many in Emergency Rooms

Air pollution levels reached new dangerous levels this month in India, leading many to end up in emergency rooms and leading officials to declare a public health emergency.

According to data, air pollution levels were 20 times what the World Health Organization still considers safe, as reported by New York Times.

Thousands of primary schools were shut down and people were urged to stay indoors.

New York Times reports that India’s air pollution has gotten out of hand, with many dying from health problems caused by air pollution, and with many others getting sick.

Despite these realities, experts say that many officials of India have refused to acknowledge the problem and are not taking the issue seriously.
