A new study published in Science of the Total Environment found a decrease in the amount of plastic pollution in the ocean surrounding the U.K.

The study analyzed data from 39 scientific surveys which examined litter from distributions across a 25 year period, taking into account numbers from more than 2400 liter counts.

Researchers found that there was approximately a 30 percent drop in plastic pollution in certain areas of the North Sea.

Researchers concluded that taxes and bans on plastic bags along with other legislation helped to reduce plastic pollution levels.
