In 2011, Kentucky approved the Environmental Literacy Plan that was developed in collaboration by scientists and educators. Since then, the plan has been implemented in the state’s public schools to teach students about environmental hazards and their impacts on the world, and to get them involved in active learning about the environment in the their local communities.
Environmental education across the United States, however, varies. Although nearly every state has volunteers that have taken up the task of drafting their own environmental education plans, many states do not offer high quality education on the subject.
On this year’s Earth Day, The Earth Day Network (EDN) is launching an environmental literacy campaign in over 500 cities across the U.S. in partnership with the March for Science on April 22. Learn how you can participate.
The EDN is an organization that actively advocates for environmental awareness and action around the globe and has goals of developing an environmental education platform to apply around the globe, explained EDN President Kathleen Rogers.
