A new study published in the U.S. Geological Surveys Publications Warehouse reveals that drug manufacturers contribute significantly to pollution in freshwater systems and in the ocean.
According to UN Environment, that treatment plants are unable to filter out chemical compounds and they end up in human water resources. Previous research has shown that such chemicals have made their way into fish, but the new study suggests chemicals are affecting humans too.
Wastewater treatment plants cannot handle traces of chemicals that end up in the water from drug manufacturers, and therefore these chemicals will affect drinking water and food.
