Family Reading Deemed “Fundamental” to Happiness

In light of studies illustrating the educational importance in reading to children, new findings indicate families who read together are more likely to be happier.

According to the journal Pediatrics, parents who read aloud to their children reported feeling less stressed and more content in their daily lives.

Reading aloud also helps to improve children’s cognitive development and has been shown to be more effective than conversation in improving vocabulary and literacy rates.

Additionally, the ritual of daily reading was shown to establish a stable home life for both youth and their guardians.

Educators are encouraging parents to spend more time reading to or with their children, regardless of their age.
