Foster Children Face Biggest Threat in Human Trafficking

Children that are placed in the foster care system are more vulnerable to human trafficking, according to experts, because they are one of the most vulnerable populations of defenseless children. Foster children often do not have access to an adult they can trust beyond the family that they are living with.

According to data from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 88 percent of children that went missing last year and were victims of sex trafficking were under the care of child welfare.

Experts say that children who age out of the system are also very vulnerable because they have a hard time finding resources to build and take control of their own lives.
