As part of the country-wide Museum for All initiative, the Grand Rapids Art Museum in Michigan will be launching free admission for qualifying low-income visitors.
The program is an effort to encourage and welcome families of all backgrounds to visit museums and engage with more arts institutions. Studies examining visitation to art museums around the U.S. have shown that the majority of visitors are caucasian and Asian.
Grand Rapids is one of three institutions in Michigan participating in the initiative to offer free admission for qualifying families who have SNAP benefits.
“This program furthers the museum’s initiative of offering inclusive and accessible experiences for visitors year-round,” said Director and CEO Dana Friis-Hansen.
