Lack of Teachers Leading to Education Crisis

As young students across the country return to school after summer vacation, many elementary, middle, and high school teachers are entering other fields as positions in education are becoming less lucrative.

Across the US, schools are reporting teacher shortages with many even holding job fairs in order to attract individuals with education backgrounds.

In particular, a Vermont school official reported “that almost every high school” in the state’s public school districts were looking to hire at least one math teacher shortly before the new school year began.

Many experts believe the lack of filled teacher positions correlates to the reduced numbers of education majors in colleges and universities.

Advocates are calling for higher salaries and benefits in order to persuade teachers from leaving the academic field.
