The Palace of Fine Arts is due for an upgrade and $20 million in preservation, and that might include the installation of a proposal for a San Francisco Museum at the Palace.

The proposal was one of three finalist’s – the other two included outlines to develop hotels, which were highly criticized as superficial. The new installation would include a 43,000 square-foot museum of San Francisco’s history, particularly around technology; it would include a 42,000 square-foot Great Hall; 5,000 square-foot restaurant; solar panels upgrades; a viewing gallery of San Francisco’s skyline, among other things.

While the proposal has not yet been approved and finalized, the $7 million project would become a significant upgrade for the city’s historic art legacy.
