A number of people have volunteered to be infected with the flu virus and will be paid by researchers who are hoping to advance their understanding of how it spreads and how to control it.
Researchers from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases are paying 80 participants $3300 each to be infected with the virus and monitored closely until the infection stops “shedding” from the person.
The study will take place in various research units across the country and will run from now through May of next year.
