Rockefeller Foundation and Partner Nonprofit Bring “Hamilton” to Low-Income Students

Lin Manuel Miranda’s hit musical, “Hamilton,” the hip-hop infused story of Alexander Hamilton’s life, will soon reach high achieving, low-income high school students through special matinees starting in Spring 2016. The Rockefeller Foundation has committed $1.5 million to the initiative, partnering with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History to design a history curriculum to accompany the showings. Organizers hope that the musical’s unique take on the Revolutionary Era- with Hispanic and black actors playing the founding fathers- will encourage students to see history as dynamic and diverse, as well as inspiring to their individual lives.
