While drinking lots of water to stay hydrated is important, there is more to adequate hydration than guzzling down only tons of water, researchers say.
A study 2018 in Frontiers in Physiology found that plain drinking water was more likely to slip right through the human digestive system. A second study from earlier in 2015 compared the hydration benefits of different liquids, including water, milk, tea and beer and ultimately found that other drinks were more hydrating than plain water, as reported by Time.
Water, of course, is still a hydrating liquid, but it usually is more effective when paired with food so that the body retains it, instead of flushing out of the system quickly, according to researchers.
