A new study explored the correlation between pollution and segregated communities and found that segregated communities are suffering from more pollution than integrated communities.
The study specifically examined exposure to toxic air pollution in various U.S. communities using data from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Risk-Screening Environmental Indicators project. The report notes that the average exposure to such pollution is positively correlated with racial disparities within and between communities.
Developing solutions to environmental pollution would benefit “white folk” too, the study concludes, as segregated communities of white people are also at risk of high exposure to pollution.
