Sunscreen should be applied all year to help prevent skin cancer, according to experts.
Hot or cold, as long as you’re seeing sunlight, “you’re getting UVA exposure,” says dermatologist physician assistant Brenda Schneider, of Westminster Dermatology in Baltimore.
“I actually encourage everyone, regardless of skin color or age to wear a facial lotion with sunscreen every day of the year and then if they’re out and about, make sure they’re covering the rest of their skin that’s exposed with SPF 30 or higher,” she said, as reported by Baltimore Sun.
More than 9,000 people are diagnosed with skin cancer every day, according to national data, and there are more than 7,000 melanoma-caused deaths projected for the year of 2019. Melanoma is the most life-threatening skin cancer.
According to experts, those between the ages of 20 and 40 should get a skin check up every three years, and after that, every year.
