The Trump administration is discontinuing Let Girls Learn, an initiative championed by Michelle Obama which aims to advance educational opportunities for young girls in developing countries.
The program was run primarily by the Peace Corps and the United States Agency for International Development, and helps girls with transportation, hygiene, financial issues, and other barriers that may prevent them from going to school.
According to a CNN report, employees were told to stop using the “Let Girls Learn” name because the program was ending, although some aspects of the initiative will continue.
Director Sheila Crowley stated, “Moving forward, we will not continue to use the ‘Let Girls Learn’ brand or maintain a stand-alone program.”
