Adoption Tax Credit Helps Families Afford Adoption

In the U.S., the average cost for adopting a child is between $25,000 and $40,000.

The 1997 adoption tax credit established by Congress was created to help offset the expensive costs of adopting to give more families a chance to adopt.

The House tax reform however could potentially remove this tax credit that has previously been awarded to families who are adopting.

Across the globe, more than 15 million children are without permanent families and chances are that more children will continue to be orphaned if families and parents cannot afford adoption fees.
