According to the San Jose Mercury News, head of Google search Amit Singhal will be leaving the company on Feb. 26 to pursue work in the philanthropic sector. He will be succeeded by John Giannandrea, the company’s current head of research and AI.

In his farewell post to Google+, he wrote, “As I entered the fifteenth year of working at Google, I’ve been asking myself the question, what would you want to do for the next fifteen? The answer has overwhelmingly been: give back to others. It has always been a priority for me to give back to people who are less fortunate…I simply want to give and do more.”
