Raising the minimum wage to $15 in California will affect potentially 5.6 million low-wage workers in the state. Among those who will most benefit from the raise proposed by Governor Jerry Brown, will be Latino, black and Asian low-wage workers, 96 percent of them will be between the ages of twenty and forty, and many of them are the head of their household income, according to research conducted by UC Berkeley. In addition, one third of those who will benefit from the raise in minimum wage have children to care for.
Over 800,000 low-wage workers across California have already been promised raises to be established completely by 2023. The $15 minimum wage will be the highest of any state in the country and will impact the largest group of low-wage workers, due to California’s large population.
