Movements.org, recently launched by the founders of Human Rights Watch and Advancing Human Rights, has made a tremendous impact in helping dissidents in countries classified as “Not Free” or “Partially Free” by the Human Rights Watch civil liberties index. The innovative platform enables activists to network with skilled professionals worldwide, requesting skills like social media, translation, film, or web development to help further their causes. Already, the website has helped Hadeel Kouky, a Syrian refugee now living in the United States, land an interview with Fox News to draw media attention to a February hostage crisis in Syria. It has also gained high profile usage from international politicians and ministers seeking stories of human rights violations through its networking channels.
