According to a new study conducted by National Center for Children in Poverty at Columbia University, 43% of all children live with families that are barely able to provide for them, including 5.2 million infants and toddlers.
Although there has been a significant decrease in the overall poverty rate in recent years, young children in the United States have almost a 50% chance of living close to the federal poverty level. The NCCP director, Heather Koball, states that this is highly concerning because “anxiety, depression, and constant stress of being financially vulnerable leaves a lasting mark on children as they grow to adulthood, affecting earning potential and health outcomes.”
